Colegio Congregación Mita (Mita Congregation School)

The Colegio Congregación Mita is accredited by the Department of Education of Puerto Rico and the Middle States Association. It provides child care services and academic instruction at all levels from Pre-Kinder to Fourth Year High School.

The School's high academic quality has made it possible for several of its students to stand out in several areas of learning, both at the local and national levels. For example, for two consecutive years, students from the School have won First Prize at the Science Fair held in Puerto Rico every year. Furthermore, these students have won all the scholarships awarded during those years. These students are hired every summer by laboratories in the United States, where they are paid a salary and all their expenses, since, despite their young age, they have already made new scientific discoveries.

It is important to emphasize that sixty percent of the students who graduate from High School at Colegio Congregación Mita are admitted to the University of Puerto Rico, our country's main institution of higher learning.

El Paraíso Shelter and Institution

The Shelter houses persons who are over 60 years old and are able to take care of themselves. The institution offers more specialized services and care for seniors who, due to their physical and/or emotional condition, are unable to care for themselves.

The Institution is licensed by the Departamento de la Familia ( Family Affairs Office) of Puerto Rico and provides the following services:

Both entities have volunteer groups, trained in Congregación Mita's concept of an improved material, mental and spiritual life, whose purpose is to help our senior citizen population. We appreciate the human value of our elders and believe they still have much to offer our society through their knowledge and experience.

CONGREGACIÓN MITA SAFETY CORPS

More than three hundred brothers form part of the Volunteer Safety Corps. They are organized in a hierarchy of ranks and wear uniforms, being trained to patrol and maintain order. They do not bear arms because their function is to keep the peace. They have their own stations and a patrol car which is used at night to supervise the watch posts, located in the district where the Church has its facilities.

This system was established when the Church began in Puerto Rico and has been extended to those countries where the Work has arrived.

CHILDREN'S COUNSELORS (BIBLE SCHOOL)

The figure of Counselo was instituted in 1956 for the benefit of the children and to provide them spiritual counseling and advice on good behavior and ideas regarding social and civic responsibilities. The Counselors are devoted brothers of good testimony who have extensive knowledge of the Bible and the doctrine of our Church. They are an example of love and patience, and have some basic educational training. The meetings are held on Saturday mornings and are attended by hundreds of children. Over the years, we have observed that the fruits of these counselors are individuals who are exemplary citizens at home, in Church, at school and/or at the university, and in the Community.

YOUTH

The Church performs an extraordinary mission with thousands of Mita youths of both sexes. Tuesday night services are conducted by the youths for the youths. There are regular periodic meetings whose purpose is to foster spiritual, moral and social improvement. A variety of spiritual and social subjects are discussed at these meetings, which are presided by the congregation's preachers and behavioral and health professionals such as social workers, counselors, psychologists, doctors, nurses and others.

Artistic expression, in all its forms, is also encouraged among our young people. Concerts, recitals, biblical exhibits, literary competitions, art exhibitions, etc. are prepared which unite Mita youth and keep them involved in activities of a positive nature.
